Welcome to the Bangor Fresh Water Project!

The Bangor Fresh Water Project is an effort to provide reliable and safe drinking water to our local communities.

The main pipeline will be a 10" pipe extending from the Miners Ranch Treatment Plant to the Bangor Treatment Plant, approximately 6.5 miles east on Oro Bangor Highway.

The Bangor Treatment Plant needs a complete replacement. In doing so, the plant will be shut down and converted to a pumping station. South Feather Water and Power (SFWP) will perform in-house civil engineering to design plans that include project scope and budget. The project aims to include main pipeline extensions to Circle Drive, Lost Horizon, Palermo West (beyond the current water consolidation project scope) Foothill Blvd. and Oroville to the area of Bangor.

Once the Bangor Treatment Plant is built, the pipelines will be pressure tested before providing treated water services to residence for new customer connections.

This in-house project provides HUGE savings for those that would like reliable, pressurized, clean & safe drinking water!

What you need to know:

  • Today's rate for a ONE-TIME new service connection fee is $6,083, per parcel.

  • Monthly Service Connection Fee is $19

  • Fresh Water rate is 48 Cents a unit.

  • One unit of water is 745 gallons.

  • SFWP freshwater users average bill is $25 a month!

  • Financing is available through SFWP!

  • If your parcel is not accessed directly from Oro Bangor Highway, additional work and costs will be inquired. Ask the Redhawk Ranch Community how!

The purpose of this project:

1. Bangor treatment plant is 103% capacity, and the system is in desperate need of repair and in danger of failing soon. There is no plan to replace the Bangor treatment plant if this project doesn’t go through, shutting water off to these current residents. Replacing the treatment plant would place a huge lump sum on these 20-30 users, who can’t afford to absorb the costs. Aka eventually resulting to a complete shut down. Leaving these 20-30 users to find another source of water for their homes.

2. The Kelly Ridge / Minors Ranch treatment plant is at 18% and was overbuilt. The water company is wanting to raise water rates to all existing users. While expanding the pipelines down into Palermo, city of Oroville and into Thermalito. Support of this project will stop the raise of water rates.

3. Many folks along Oro Bangor Hwy, throughout the community of Bangor, have talked about poor water quality, the constant costs of well water treatments, well dry outs, well failures due to the last earthquake and folks spending large amounts to have fresh water delivered weekly. If we don’t speak up and let the water company know we have a need, we will be bypassed in this water project as well as eventually loosing the Bangor pump house once it fails due to lack of repairs and the funds to do so.

4. Good news! I’ve expressed that there are folks up and down La Porte road (upham and beyond) that have expressed an interest and a need for fresh water. It was mentioned if there is a need, SFWP would love to serve as many as they can. They’re willing to discuss expanding past the 4 corners of Bangor and going down Los Verjeles road to the county border line and assessing how far north/south on La Porte road serves would be needed. — but I need to show SFWP the #’s to prove there is a need.

5. THERE ARE NO OBLIGATIONS RIGHT NOW. Right now we are spreading the word, educating and trying to show SFWP there is a need and to not bypass our little town. You can sign up now as a tentative future customer, come the day to sign, you do not have to sign. For whatever reasons you face.

6. BE NEIGHBORLY. If you were in need of fresh water, I’m sure you wouldn’t want a neighbor to tell you no. If you have a neighbor in need, please support this project and help them. This will ease their livelyhood, support healthy living, and saves them on long term costs.

• This water will not only serve the community in need, but the local Bangor Elemnatary school, which desperately needs to ensure clean water in the facility for the children’s health and safety.

• The fire department is required to have fresh treated water ONLY within their fire engines. This limits areas where calfire can pull water safely to fill their engines. This project proposes the installation of fire hydrants along Oro Bangor Hwy, and any other roads this gets piped down. This also proposes providing additional fresh water refill stations for those who have a need and still can’t afford this project. Installing fire hydrants helps improve eligibility for fire insurance, reducing existing fire insurnace premiums, and increasing fire safety in our community.

** I’ll work on a map of tentatively where we are proposing the pipeline and the potential to expand the pipeline. If it would help visually for folks.

I’ll try and update the webpage as questions and concerns are shared with me. As well as any new updates and or meetings from the Redhawk Ranch community or SFWP public meetings.

OUR BIGGEST IMPACT FOR SUPPORT OF THIS PROJECT, is to show up in person at the SFWP monthly meeting (4th Tuesday @2pm) to express to SFWP the Bangor community need. To share your story as to why you need, why a neighbor or family member needs this project.

YOUR STORY MATTERS! YOUR LIFE MATTERS!
